Lekan Shonde looks dishevelled in court as police charge him for murdering wife by 'blow to the head'

Lekan Shonde the suspect in the culpable homicide trial of his wife (Ronke), following her alleged murder, appeared in Ebute Meta magistrate court this afternoon, looking unkempt.

The gentleman who was on the run for three days until he surrendered to the police on Monday, May 9, was wearing a blue ‘polo’ top and beige chinos short. He now has a beard, splashed with gray hair, showing he has not shaved for days.


He pleaded not guilty after the one-count charge of murder was read to him.

His charge sheet read:

That you, Shonde Olalekan ‘M’ on the 5th of May,2016 at about 2030 hrs,at 3, Tiemo Str, Egbeda, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill one Ronke Shonde ‘F’,age 37 years, by giving her fist blow on her head and thereby committed an offence, punishable under section 221 of the criminal Law of Lagos state of Nigeria,2011. 

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, ordered after his plea, that he should be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for 30 days, pending an advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions. The case has been adjourned till June 24 for mention.
