Another aviation disaster has occurred as a Russian-built cargo plane carrying some passengers crashed today, Wednesday after taking off from the airport in Juba, the capital city of South Sudan.

Reuters reports that according to an official and an eyewitness, at least 41 people were killed in the crash, comprising both individuals on board and on the ground.

One crew member and a child on board were fortunate to survive the crash, according to presidential spokesman Ateny Wek Ateny. Ateny said the plane may have had about 20 people on board, including the crew and 10 to 15 passengers, while an unknown number were killed on the ground. Numbers are still being collated.

Wednesday’s crash comes barely five days after a Russian plane departing Egypt crashed into the Sinai peninsula on Saturday, killing all 224 people on board.
