Afeni Shakur, mother of rap legend Tupac Shakur, died late Monday night ... possibly from a heart attack..
Afeni, who was the subject of one of his most iconic songs, was a philanthropist, founding and running the Tupac Amaru Shakur Foundation after her son's death.
She was also a member of the Black Panther movement and defended herself in court when she was accused of multiple bombings in 1970.
In May 1971, she was acquitted on all charges — and she gave birth to Tupac just one month later.
She was the subject of his 1995 song “Dear Mama,” in which Tupac detailed his childhood struggles and respect for his mother.
As keeper of all things Tupac, Afeni greenlit the biopic, "All Eyez on Me" ... which just recently wrapped filming.
She was 69
