A soldier has been arrested after he was allegedly involved in the rape of a 14-year-old girl on a train.
Helping hand: The alleged victim was rescued by the Railway Protection Force
Mandrish Tripathi coerced the schoolgirl to drink alcohol when she was taking public transport on Sunday to meet a Facebook friend in Ludhiana in Punjab, India, police say.
Indian media reports that later on, it's alleged he and two other Army men - referred to as jawans, or a rank below commissioned officer - who have yet to be apprehended - gangraped the girl.
She was reported to have been rescued by the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police on Monday.
Although her parents had forbidden her from making the trip, she left without telling them, and once on the train apparently sat in a compartment reserved for Army.
The teen says that she was forced to drink by Tripathi before being raped six times when she went to use the toilet.
When she was found unconscious at Madhupur in Jharkhand, social workers went to her aid and she allegedly identified her attackers from CCTV footage from the train.
Tripathi has been remanded in police custody for seven days and charged.
Last week, one of the convicted rapists in India's highest-profile gang rape was released as the country's top court said it had no power to detain him amid protests from the public.
The man, who was 17 at the time of the crime, received the maximum punishment of three years from India's Juvenile Justice Board for the 2012 gang rape of a woman on a bus in New Delhi.
The Supreme Court had been considering a petition from the Delhi Commission For Women to extend the sentence but was rejected by the court.
The attack attracted international focus on the treatment of women in India and the sentence handed to the then teenager sparked protest over the severity of the punishment.
The attack saw 23-year-old Jyoti Singh repeatedly raped by the teenager and five adults who beat her with a metal bar before later dumping her on a road.
Miss Singh died two weeks after the attack.

Just before 2015 ended, Kanye West released a surprise, victory rap titled “Facts,” that went through his highlights of the year.
Kanye released the rap on SoundCloud on Thursday night at about 9:37 p.m. EST and raps in the new song:
“I feel so accomplished.”
He starts the song with a rehash of his line from “New God Flow,” with the chorus: “Yeezy just jumped over the Jumpman,” referencing his sneaker’s dominant sales this year, overshadowing Michael Jordan’s sneaker sales in 2015.
West, who left Nike and took his Yeezy sneakers over to Adidas, celebrated beating his old brand, taking several shots at the athletic wear giant.
“Nike treat employees just like slaves, gave LeBron a billi not to run away,” the rapper said, referencing LeBron James's lifetime endorsement with the brand, which he signed on Dec. 8.
West, also a fashion designer, boasted that while he hadn’t released an album all year, his “sneakers went platinum” in 2015. The shoes sold out almost instantly at stores internationally, West said in his track.
Going through more of his 2015 highlights, the rapper called back to his speech at the MTV Video Music Awards, when he ended it telling the world he would be running for president in 2020.
He reminds listeners on the track that he hasn’t forgotten about his campaign.
“2020, I’mma run a whole election!”
West gives high praises to his superstar wife, Kim Kardashian, claiming her “Kimoji” app broke the Apple Store when it came out.
While Yeezy had a great year, he also decided to give shoutouts to two stars who have had an awful 2015.
“Do anybody feel bad for Bill Cosby? Did he forget the names, just like Steve Harvey?”
West also celebrated the birth of his son, Saint West, in December, but the boy was noticeably missing from the victory lap track.

Welcome to the beginning of a New Year of the continuation of CHANGE in our beloved nation.
I am aware that Nigerians have experienced a number of significant hardships over the past months. Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. I am aware of the lengthy queues at fuel stations and of the difficulties businesses have faced in acquiring foreign exchange.
These challenges are only temporary; we are working to make things better. When I presented myself to you as a presidential candidate and asked you to vote for me, I wanted to be a leader who keeps his promises. I wanted to be a leader who restores the people's hope in those elected to serve them. I wanted to be a leader who initiates positive and enduring CHANGE.
I am still totally committed to being that kind of leader. Unforeseen circumstances and other distractions notwithstanding, I shall still do my utmost best to keep every promise I made to Nigerians during my election campaign. In the past seven months since our inauguration on May 29, 2015, my administration has focused on laying the right foundation for the CHANGE you voted for during our historic presidential election. Nigerians will in due course begin to enjoy the fruits of all our ongoing work.
The effective and efficient implementation of our 2016 budget proposals will address many of the socio-economic issues that are of current concern to our people. One area in which Nigerians, especially those in the northeast, have already begun to experience major CHANGE is in the war on terror. I commend our Armed Forces for significantly curtailing the insurgency which has ravaged the northeast of Nigeria over the past few years.
However, there is still a lot of work to be done in the area of security. Our Armed Forces will maintain, consolidate and build on their successes in the war against Boko Haram and violent extremism. This government will not consider the matter concluded until the terrorists have been completely routed and normalcy restored to all parts of the country that have been adversely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.
Our crackdown on corruption will continue to be vigorously undertaken. I urge the courts to support our efforts and help in the recovery of stolen funds by speedily concluding trials and showing that impunity no longer has a place in our country.
There is much work to do in other areas as well and I have charged all my ministers and other appointees to ensure that Nigerians experience positive changes in their lives in 2016.
We must reduce our country's reliance on oil. We must diversify our economy.
And we must do all we can to promote job creation. Our challenges are many but our determination to succeed is strong and unshaken. So too is our confidence in God. I wish you all a very Happy New Year.

A Zimbabwean pastor, Lazarus Dube, has allegedly killed his wife and stepdaughter before hanging himself in a bush, because he caught his wife cheating on him.
In the tragic report carried by MyZimbabwe, the 44-year-old man of God, brutally slaughtered his wife Lucy, and stepdaughter Mary, 18, after accusing them of being prostitutes, before killing himself.
Dube allegedly committed the gruesome crime in his staff house at Sirmic Enterprises, industrial site.
He had reportedly called his uncle, Nickels Sibanda, barely 30 minutes after the murder, telling him he had killed his family.
Sibanda who travelled from Insiza to Kwekwe, told the police at the Kwekwe Police Station that his nephew, a pastor with an Apostolic Sect based in Mbizo 18, told him he killed his family because they refused to repent from prostitution.
“I can confirm that my nephew axed to death his wife and step daughter on Monday morning accusing them of being prostitutes.
I was in Insiza when my nephew called me. He told me that he had killed them because they were involved with many men. He said he had asked them to repent but they had refused to listen to him and continued being promiscuous,” Sibanda said.
Sibanda said as he attempted to talk him out of committing suicide, Dube hung up on him.
“I went to Mbembesi Police Station and told them about my conversation with my nephew. The police called Kwekwe Central Police Station. My nephew’s body and those of his daughter and wife were then discovered by the police.
We’ve no money to take our nephew to our rural home. So we’re burying him here. He was a quiet person and I’m shocked by what has happened,” the tearful Sibanda said.
